Study: 32 of 113 Phoenix small business Facebook pages went quiet

On Sept. 21, those pages had no post in more than 90 days. Twenty-two had none in a year.

CHANDLER, Ariz., Oct. 30, 2026 — Nearly three in 10 Phoenix-area small business Facebook pages in a hand-checked sample had gone more than 90 days without a post. On Sept. 21, 2026, 32 of 113 pages had no post newer than 90 days, and 22 had none within a year. Chandler software company boomp.net ran the study and published its counts, method and data. It ends with a check any owner can make before Small Business Saturday on Nov. 28.

The study began with 578 small businesses in 12 industries, from plumbers and roofers to dentists and law firms, across Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale and Peoria. The company read each business's own website. Then 120 of the linked Facebook pages, chosen at random, were opened one at a time in a browser, and the date of the newest post was recorded. Of those, 113 pages could still be found. Of 501 websites that could be read, 136 linked to no social profile at all. Of 115 linked YouTube channels that could be found, 51 had no upload in six months. The study does not show why posting stopped, and it did not read Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn.

"I opened every one of those pages myself, and not one of them was empty," said Kathleen Celmins, founder of boomp.net. "Every quiet page had posted before. Somewhere along the way, the posts stopped. Before Small Business Saturday, open the Facebook page your own website links to and check the date of the last post, your hours and your phone number."
