Create a regular X account first, complete the profile, then convert it to a free Professional Account and choose Business. X does not offer a separate business-account signup.
Set up your business account step by step
- Go to x.com/signup and enter your business name plus a phone number or email address. X will send a code to verify the phone number or email.
- Choose an available @handle. Keep it close to your business name: the handle becomes part of your profile URL and must be fewer than 15 characters.
- Add your logo as the profile image, a header image, a 160-character bio, your website, and location. Use the same business name and branding customers see elsewhere.
- Open the left-side menu, select X for Professionals, choose a category, and select Business. You can only convert after creating the regular account.
- Review the public profile while logged out, publish an introductory post, and pin it if it is the clearest explanation of what your business does.
Step 3 is where most people stall — the handle, the 160-character bio, and keeping it all consistent with every other profile. Is an X Professional Account free?
Yes. X says converting an existing account to a Professional Account is free. Premium subscriptions and paid advertising are optional; neither is required to label the profile as a business.
What do I need before converting?
X requires an account name, bio, profile picture, and an authentic identity that is clear on the profile. The account must also comply with X's Professional Account policy. A complete, consistent profile helps customers recognize the account as the official presence for your business.
Is a business account different from a personal X account?
The signup is the same. The difference comes after signup, when you convert the account through X for Professionals and choose Business rather than Creator. That conversion adds access to professional profile features and tools; you can switch the account type later.
