Plann is much more than the empty calendar an older version of this page described. It includes an AI content and caption generator, daily post ideas, pre-written captions, stock media, strategy prompts, visual planning and auto-posting.
That makes the decision simpler, not harder: do you want better tools for doing social media, or do you want someone else to operate the workflow?
The short answer
- You already make the posts and only need scheduling — Meta Business Suite, Buffer, Metricool
- You like creating content but want a different creative workspace — Planoly, Loomly, SocialBee
- You do not want to run a content workspace at all — Boomp, $99 Social, a local agency

Read the first column after the tool name. Plann can shorten the work, but you still decide which prompts, ideas and templates become this month's posts.
If you only need scheduling
Meta Business Suite. Free native scheduling for Facebook and Instagram. If those are your only channels, it may be all you need. It does not cover LinkedIn, Pinterest or Google Business Profile. Meta Business Suite
Buffer. The cleanest low-cost scheduler in this set. Its free plan connects up to three channels, and paid pricing is per channel. Buffer also includes an AI Assistant, but you still supply the direction and media. Buffer pricing
Metricool. Scheduling with stronger analytics and a useful free tier. It is the best fit here when understanding performance matters as much as filling the queue. Metricool pricing
If you want a different creative workspace
Planoly. Another visual, Instagram-first planner with AI assistance. It is a closer interface substitute than a different operating model. Planoly pricing
SocialBee. AI post generation organized around reusable content categories. It fits businesses that want to publish frequently and recycle strong evergreen posts. SocialBee pricing
Loomly. A larger team-oriented system with AI post generation, brand-voice features, approval workflows and advanced analytics. Choose it when Plann feels too lightweight, not when you want fewer tools to operate. Loomly pricing
To be precise about Plann: its official pricing page says the paid plans include a full AI social suite with content and caption generation. It also offers daily ideas, pre-written captions and stock media. The gap is not that Plann leaves you with a blank screen. The gap is that you still run Plann.
If you do not want to run a tool
$99 Social. A human done-for-you service operating since 2012. Its Standard plan is $99 a month for 10 posts on one channel, with extra channels priced separately. A writer, designer and account manager handle the content. $99 Social
A local agency. The right answer when you need campaign strategy, paid ads, original shoots, community management or hands-on consulting. Expect a larger retainer and meetings.
Boomp. Reads the website you already have, prepares 20 posts a month and publishes approved posts across social channels and Google Business Profile. You do not choose prompts or fill a calendar. The batch arrives; you approve, edit or skip. See posts from your website first.
What they cost
Entry pricing from each vendor's official page. Prices checked 2026-07-29.
| Tool | Entry price | What that buys | Free tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Business Suite | Free | Facebook and Instagram scheduling | Yes |
| Buffer | $5 / month per channel | Essentials, one channel; $60 billed yearly | Yes, up to three channels |
| Plann | $12.50 / month billed yearly | Power User, one brand and one user; $15 month-to-month | Yes, one Instagram account |
| SocialBee | $29 / month | Bootstrap, billed monthly | 14-day trial |
| Loomly | $49 / month billed yearly | Starter; $65 month-to-month | 7-day trial |
| $99 Social | $99 / month | 10 posts, one channel; extra channels cost $10 each | No |
| Boomp | $99 / month | 20 posts across supported social channels and Google Business Profile | Free preview |
Buffer's $5 price is per channel. Four channels cost $20 a month on Essentials when billed yearly. Comparing "$5 Buffer" with an all-channel price without that unit is misleading.
Plann's free plan is Instagram-only. Its official page lists up to 30 scheduled posts a month and limited AI credits. The $12.50 Power User price is a monthly equivalent paid annually; month-to-month is $15.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Plann alternative for a local business?
It depends on why Plann is not working for you. Meta Business Suite or Buffer are enough if you already have posts and only need scheduling. Loomly or SocialBee add heavier AI and team workflows. Boomp or $99 Social fit owners who want a service to prepare and publish the content instead of another workspace to operate.
Is there a free alternative to Plann?
Yes. Plann itself has a Free Forever plan for one Instagram account, while Meta Business Suite schedules Facebook and Instagram for free and Buffer supports up to three channels on its free plan. Free plans still need someone to choose, create, review and queue the posts.
Does Plann create social media posts for you?
Plann includes an AI content and caption generator, daily post ideas, pre-written captions, stock media and strategy prompts. Those features help you make content inside Plann. They do not turn it into a managed service: you still open the workspace, choose the idea, customize the result and run the calendar.
How much does Plann cost?
Plann lists a Free Forever plan and a Power User plan at $15 month-to-month or $12.50 per month when paid annually. Build and Grow plans cost more for additional brands, users and collaboration. Check Plann's current pricing.
Is Boomp a Plann alternative?
Only for a business that wants the content job handled. Plann is the better fit when you enjoy visual planning, want strategy tools and prefer to shape every post yourself. Boomp is for the owner who wants posts made from the business website, delivered for approval and published after approval.
